Curtain Conundrum – Choosing the right window coverings for your rental property
We had a great enquiry yesterday so I thought I might share the response I gave for anyone looking to put window coverings in a rental.
“We are in the process of building a rental property which is due to be completed mid February and will need window coverings throughout, what would you recommend as a durable and cost effective option for windows – ie: vertical blinds, roller, etc given that it is to be tenanted”
“Try to stay away from vertical blinds as we have the most call outs to repair these – they have a lot of parts that deteriorate in the sun and don’t last long around small children unless you are careful, so in a rental I would avoid these definitely.
You can’t really go past curtains for easy cleaning – while not always in vogue they are really affordable and if you do happen to get tenants that have habits – such as smoking or loving to cook spicy food – it is so easy to throw them in the wash to get the smell out. You can either get the right durable fabric or even really cheap ones that you just won’t mind replacing.
Roller blinds would be my next pick – they are smart looking, relatively easy to clean and have less moving parts than verticals.”
Thanks for the great question Monique!!
